Mission - Vision - Values

SAO is committed to helping particularly vulnerable displaced women and mothers in Greece. We offer them shelters where they can find refuge, orientation and new perspectives. The work of our specialist staff focuses on trauma-oriented psychosocial support.

In collaboration with other humanitarian actors and partner organisations, SAO women can also access medical and legal help.

The following three pillars define the scope of SAO

  • Support in meeting basic needs

  • Professional psychosocial support

  • Building job-relevant skills

Bashira Center

The Bashira Center on Lesvos is a daytime refuge where particularly vulnerable women stuck in the Mavovrouni refugee camp are supported.

Amina Centre

At the Amina Center in Athens, we look after women who live in refugee camps or shelters in the greater Athens area. Amina offers refuge, orientation and new perspectives.

Back on track

The Back on Track program covers our integration-promoting measures, such as language courses, workshops and developing job-relevant skills, and is offered in both centres.

Our Vision

We set standards for professional, psychosocial support for displaced women.

Women accompanied by SAO gain a stronger foothold in their new home.

SAO advocates to ensure that displaced women's specific needs and rights are considered in the future.

Our Values

We stand up for displaced women with humanity and professionalism.

We meet them in solidarity, at eye level, with respect and recognition of human diversity, regardless of their reason for fleeing.

We grant displaced women the right to self-determination at all times.

We act with integrity, responsibility, and transparency in our cooperation.
